Looking back at ‘We Got Married’…

14 May

I’ve been always positive (with probability of 90%) about every couples featured in ‘We Got Married’ since it became an ‘official’ show to be included in MBC Sunday Sunday Night programme after its instant success as a Lunar New Year Special. In Lunar Special, the couples were Crown J-Seo In Young, Jung Hyung Don-Saori, Alex-Jang Yoon Jung, and Hong Kyung Min-Solbi.

We got married

Some changes were made as the show proceed into Sunday Sunday Night timeslot, replacing Jang Yoon Jung spot with Shin Ae, and Hong Kyung Min with Andy. So here is, the ‘original’ four couples since the very first episode. We have seen all these couples from the pilot episode up to episode 8, with each couple displaying unique relationship between the two celebrities.

Don Don Saori

Starting with Saori and Hyung Don (or affectionately called Don Don by Saori) couple, they were the most ‘unromantic’ from the beginning of the show. Instead of potraying newly-weds, they looked and behaved as if they had been married for 10 years. They bring laughter to us and Don Don had his own moments trying his best to be a good husband, preparing events for Saori. But his plans always ended up a failure, who didn’t remember the wine bottle incident, the ‘glow-in-the-dark’ stars on the bedroom ceiling, and their ‘cut-out’ polaroid pictures.

Crown J In Young

Move on to Crown J, whose real name is Kim Kye Hoon/Kevin and Seo In Young couple, they were widely known as the ticking bomb couple. Even though with an age difference of 5 years, they bickered with each other in a childish manner for very ‘undeserving’ causes. But its their speciality making up after a messy fight everytime, nobody can top Seo In Young’s aegyo or Crown J’s adorable events. A brand new bathrobe for the husband, a pillowcase full of candies for White Day, having a couple hair-colour, making orange flavoured kimchi, a pair of brand new shoes from LA, making a dosirak (lunch box) according to their faces and disastrous trip to Dae Gu, this pair is sure an interesting one.

Alex Shin Ae

The most romantic couple out of four, Alex and Shin Ae brought a girl’s most romatic and perfect marriage fantasy into life. Awkward with each other at first, with Shin Ae’s heart tightly closed. As time progressed, Shin Ae opened up bits by bits to Alex, who was trying his best to be a good husband. He sure is good, preparing breakfast and dinner, very attentive towards Shin Ae and rich with unexpected small but adorable events. Even while preparing kimchi they looked very romantic, with Shin Ae cracking jokes here and there, looking more and more at ease beside Alex. They finally hold hands in Episode 8, I really adore Shin Ae’s nickname for Alex, Al-goon (Alex real name is Alex Chu Hun Goon), representing that their relationship has moved a step foward.

Andy Solbi

Andy and Solbi couple were well-known recognised for their cuteness. Credits should go to Solbi, who was open about her feelings right from the start with occasional ‘threats’ i.e. Eric of Shinhwa here and there. But Andy was only being careful, and he is indeed someone who is quiet, shy and reserved compared to other Shinhwa members. Episodes by episodes, we can see Andy enjoying himself and tried his best to be a good husband, as well as Solbi trying her best to show Andy her best side. Lying about not a good pool player to trick Andy into a cute bet, lying about being an expert in preparing kimchi, making a lucnh box for Andy and Shinhwa, attending the 10th anniversary concert and joining Andy on stage performing ‘Love Song’, all these had been done by Solbi. Andy, shows his affection doing small things that might as well be overlooked. Preparing a princess bed and a ‘gift’ of himself for White Day, helping Solbi making kimchi, smiling from ear to ear as she came with lunch boxes for him and a heart gesture on stage just for Solbi. They even shared an ‘accidental’ kiss, and to be honest I could go on and on about this couple, so I better stop.

Episode 8 came by with a storm. Alex-Shin Ae and Hyung Don-Saori couple waved their goodbye to the show. For Alex case, he left for his solo singing career. He prepared a small gift to Shin Ae, with a big meaning behind it. Shin Ae agreed to wait for him, and although I doubt that they will return as a couple in the show, I hope they will be well off screen together. Saori also left to pursue a singing career, landing Hyung Don as the new MC of the show.

Without Alex and Shin Ae, as well as Hyung Don and Saori, the show wasn’t the same anymore. But after all, it was only a show, people come and go. You’ll be missed, Alex, Shin Ae and Saori. Good luck in whatever you pursue after this show, thank you for bringing us laughter and happiness.

As for Crown J-In Young and Andy-Solbi, even though it might be hard for them personally (especially for Andy and Solbi) I hope that they will stay strong and keep on fighting. Whether to spill the ‘love’ in reel-life into their real-life or not, its entirely their choice. As a fan, I wished you all the happiness and respect you deserved.

Does anyone know the name of the song Alex sings while making kimchi. And the song Hyungdon plays while making kimchi?
